Community Wi-Fi Pilot

Consultation has concluded.

CBD Wi-FiWhat are your thoughts on Free Wi-Fi?

Cairns Regional Council’s Community Wi-Fi project will provide free internet access for people to use on their Wi-Fi enabled devices.

In order to ascertain the need and success of the project, Council will conduct a nine-month ‘pilot’ within the primary tourism precinct of Cairns. The trial will start soon.

Coverage will be along The Esplanade from approximately Aplin Street to Shields Street up along Pier Point Road, then back along the waterfront to Aplin Street.

During the trial Council will collect usage information to assess the level of service we need to provide. Council will also consult with businesses and users to assess the benefits or otherwise of the service.

We want to hear from people who have used the community wi-fi and from businesses.
